| My second and final stop was the town of Madrid. It was on its way to being a ghost town when local artists started to move in. It is now the home to a couple dozen galleries. |
After looking through several galleries and gift shops, I decided to have a couple beers at the local watering hole: the Mine Shaft Tavern. |

| These two guys provided some live music. The guy with the handle-bar mustache harmonized his old-fashioned bass quite well with the guitar. |

| The following Thursday (2/23), a bunch of people from work went out to a restaurant in Santa Fe called Maria's. We ordered sopapillas. It is a puffy bread that you eat with honey. I also ordered some enchiladas. However, they were made with blue corn tortillas and they weren't rolled. It was served more like a sandwich. There was a flat tortilla on the top and bottom with the ingredients in the middle. This is typical in New Mexico. |
After dinner, we took a group picture. From left to right: Ben Glover (Frederick, MD), myself (Los Angeles, CA), Christa Wingfield (Savannah River, GA), Linda Rudd (Oak Ridge, TN), Christy Pettey (Richland, WA), Pat Morgan (Savannah River, GA), Lesli Milikien (San Diego, CA), Susan Elkins (Savannah River, GA), Cheryl Miller (San Francisco, CA), Jan Greening (Denver, CO), Lynn Soderstrom (San Francisco, CA), and Mike Lively (Oak Ridge, TN). |
