New Mexico, February - March 2006
I didn't have to work on Sunday (2/19), so I took a drive down Highway 14
which is known as the Turquoise Trail.  The U.S. Department of Transportation
has  designated 96 "scenic byways", including this one, to recognize and
preserve special roads.
My first stop was the town of Cerillos.  This is a picture of the bustling
downtown area.  Its history lies in the once strong turquoise mining industry in
the area.  Today, it is known for the many movies that have been filmed there
including Young Guns.
This llama at the local petting zoo kept a close eye on me.
Cerrillos had a Turquoise Mining Museum.  At the cost of two dollars, I saw
many mining artifacts from the mid 1800's.
This old miner has been preserved as is now part of the display.
This is an old dynamite detonator.
The museum had an extensive bottle and jar collection beautifully displayed in their windows.
